The Island of Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan and Villa Nusa

Just 17 kilometres to the east of Bali is the beautiful little island of Nusa Lembongan which offers visitors a very relaxed, laid-back lifestyle. Surrounded by clear, aqua blue waters the island is famous for its amazing dive sites, fantastic snorkelling and world-renowned surf breaks. No cars, no nightclubs and no shopping makes it a great place to completely relax and take time-out for yourself, your friends and family. It’s easy to see why people say it is like Bali 20 years ago – the traditional Balinese lifestyle and culture is evident across the island. The only pressure is to decide whether you want to surf the next great wave or scuba dive to see the elusive Mola-Mola…. or just remembering your sun cream while you’re lying by the pool with a glass of something cold and a good book!

Nusa Lembongan is only 8sq. km but boasts beautiful white sand beaches, several great local and international bars and restaurants (one run by a Michelin star chef!), and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. The scenery is stunning. There are many great coastal paths which have amazing views of the breakers rolling to shore. Look out for the boats that ply between the islands, the seaweed farming that is the main occupation for the islanders and, if you’re lucky, the dolphins playing in the waves, just off shore.

The local culture is also very much alive and you are always welcome to join the colourful ceremonies, to listen to the gentle gamelan music coming from the many temples scattered all over the island. Watch the men in their sarongs and the ladies in their traditional dress carrying their towering offerings on their heads… even on the back of a motorbike!

But that’s not all there is to do here – stand-up paddle boarding, yoga classes, mangrove tours, parasailing and even Balinese cooking classes  are all available and easy to arrange.

Getting to Nusa Lembongan from Bali couldn’t be simpler – when you book your stay at Villa Nusa we will arrange for your airport or hotel pick-up, speedboat transfer to the island and drop off at the villa. We will take care of all logistics so you don’t need to worry. The boat takes only 30 minutes from Sanur to Lembongan but the island feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of southern Bali. Once on the island most visitors rent a motorbike, mountain bike or golf buggy to get around. There are no cars on the island but a few truck taxis are available and these can be arranged for you when you book your stay at Villa Nusa.
