8 Things to do in Nusa Lembongan with Children
Family holidays are the highlight of the year for many, but deciding what to do and where to go is not always so easy. Will there be activities for everyone? Is there enough to keep all family members busy? In Nusa Lembongan there are a huge range of activities, places to go and things to see to keep the entire family entertained for as long as you want to stay. Here are some of the most popular activities along with the age range that they are suited to. Hopefully this is helpful!
Nusa Lembongan is the perfect place to learn or improve your surfing skills and for experienced surfers the island offers some of Bali’s best waves. Monkey Surfing offer surf lessons for beginners and intermediate level surfers as well as surfing guides and private classes. Surfing lessons can be taken by all ages providing that they are comfortable in the water. When there is big swell and the waves are more challenging then conditions are not ideal for younger children. Check with your instructor if you are unsure. Smaller children may enjoy body boarding more and can do this alongside those who are taking surf classes. Monkey Surfing are highly recommended.
2. Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)
Stand up paddle boarding is a lot of fun and can be either a relaxing activity or a work out depending on which you prefer. For smaller children, standing up on the board and paddling can be challenging but the wide, stable boards make sitting down possible so no matter what age or fitness level this is an activity which can be enjoyed by all. Rocky SUP give excellent beginner levels which start with the basics and then a paddle tour around Lembongan Bay, including a stop at Coconuts Beach. Rocky SUP also teach intermediates who want to try catching some waves and provide guides and board hire.
3. Mangrove Tour by Traditional Boat
Suitable for all ages – no restrictions. The mangrove forests on the north of Nusa Lembongan Island are an area of natural beauty and can be explored by local boat which is “punted” along with a long bamboo lope (by the Captain). When you enter the mangroves you’ll be amazed by the quiet and calm as you weave your way through the network of natural water ways through the trees. The calm flat water reflects the tress almost like a mirror and is a dream for photographers. If you’re lucky you’ll also spot a variety of bird butterfly species along the way. This is an easy tour to arrange for you when you arrive at Villa Nusa.
Nusa Lembongan is surrounded by the crystal clear waters and stunning reefs of the Nusa Penida Marine Park. Snorkelling trips can be arranged through dive companies but for a more personal day trip we also use local snorkelling boat captains who have traditional boats and years of experience to take you on a private tour of some of the best spots. Snorkelling is an activity which can be enjoyed by all ages assuming they are comfortable in the water. For those who are not strong swimmers, life jackets can be provided making it a more enjoyable experience. Highlights include snorkelling with manta rays, schools of brightly coloured reef fish and stunning, vibrant coral reefs. Snorkeling can be arranged with us when you are here or in advance.
5. Scuba Diving
There is no better way to experience the underwater beauty of Nusa Lembongan than by scuba diving. Children who are aged 8 – 9 years old can try scuba in a swimming pool. Children aged 10+ are able to dive in the ocean with parental consent. World Diving Lembongan is a PADI 5 star dive center with years of experience diving around these islands. They offer daily dive trips for certified divers as well as “try dives” and PADI Open Water courses for beginners plus a range of Advanced Courses for those who are looking to develop their skills. Highlights include diving Manta Point and Crystal Bay, a variety of marine life including turtles, sea snakes, schooling trevally, scorpionfish, tuna, barracuda, mola (sunfish) from July to October and some exhilarating drift dives. World Diving are renowned for their stunning “Big Boat” which offers divers one of the most relaxing days on the ocean; bean bags on the sun deck, heaps of space, bathroom on board and a friendly and professional team.
6. Cliff Top Walk & Devil’s Tear
There is a beautiful walk along the cliff tops which passes by “Devil’s Tear”. When the swell is big the waves come crashing in below you so don’t stand too close to the edge! This is an easy walk and the views over the oceans along with the craggy cliffs and water pools make for excellent photography opportunities. We can arrange transport for you when you are here. This is a activity that can be enjoyed by all but children should be accompanied.
7. Island Tours
If you’d like to explore all of Nusa Lembongan then an island tour is a great option for all of the family regardless of ages. Island tours use small pick-ups which are fitted out with seating in the back to whisk you around the island and to all of the popular spots. Island tours can also include Mangrove Tours and Devil’s Tear. We use local, reputable tour guides with good English to look after you. We can arrange this when you are here at Villa Nusa or in advance.
8. Pool Days
If the aim of your holiday is to spend quality time together then there is no better place to hang out as a family than in the pool at Villa Nusa. With views over the island, sun loungers, pool towels and pool “toys” you’ll be able to enjoy family time in your own private pool – what could be better than that!
